This programme is designed to assist asylum seeking and refugee doctors to become registered with the General Medical Council and thus be in a position to compete for posts in the NHS in the UK. Although, as a consequence of Glasgow having become a major dispersal centre for asylum-seekers, the programme is at present primarily active in the West of Scotland Deanery, the principles outlined apply equally throughout Scotland. |

The course offers free training in website production and online journalism to refugees and asylum seekers in the UK who have experience of writing professionally. The Refugee Doctors Programme is located in the Department of General Practice and Primary Care at the Mile End campus of Barts and the London, Queen Mary's School of Medicine and Dentistry. This programme aims to assist refugee doctors based in and around London to pass the tests required of overseas qualified doctors before they can practise medicine in the UK. It offers a new programme of PLAB courses and learning support for refugee doctors working towards GMC registration so that they can re-enter medical practice. |
