Medical Humanities is a growing academic discipline. That said, one could hardly say that linking medicine and humanities is new: they have been inseparable since Hippocratic times. However, the 20C medicine with its fascination with the scientific progress somewhat relegated humanities to soft subjects. This did not work: first there was recognition that teaching and studying ethics was essential for doctors involved in high-technology medicine. Now, and this is what Medical Humanities is about, there is re-thinking of the role of the humanities in the making of a humane doctor.

This section of the Cyber Medical College aims to do the following:
- inform you about the developments in the field (see Defining the Field category)
- provide information about current events (News) and meetings (Meetings)
- provide links to art-related organisations (Art related organisations) and in particular to those involved in arts and health (Arts in health: who is involved?)
- link to websites which contain material relevant to teaching humanities in medicine (Med Humanities resources)
- link to libraries (Libraries) and art museums (Visual arts, science and medicine: exhibitions and museums)
- develop a section on writing in science and medicine. This, we hope, will be useful for those in training and also to anybody interested, or involved, in journal editing and, broadly, biomedical publishing (Writing in science and medicine).
- develop section on literature in medicine
